在10年级科学的课堂上，外教老师Mr. Cheng讲到地壳运动的相关章节时，为了更好地寓教于乐，他给学生们布置了一项亲手制作火山模型的课题作业：以太空泥、废旧材料作为主要制作素材，根据自己的喜好选择一座火山并完成模型制作。
在课题制作的初始阶段，Mr. Cheng为了使学生对山体构造有一个更加形象深刻的了解，决定带领学生走出课堂，去探寻大自然的奥秘。在征得校方领导同意并能够确保学生安全的前提下，Mr. Cheng和10年级学生来到校园里的观景山，进行了一场别开生面的户外课堂教学。
科学学科的一个重要特点就是理论来自于实践，最终也必须回归于实践。所以学习科学离不开实践，而制作模型则可以看作是学习科学的基础和前提。通过亲手制作火山模型，可以培养学生的动手、动脑的能力。以下是部分学生的火山课题成果展示和心得感受。
Modeling volcano is an assignment in Canadian science class. My volcano model is Mount Vesuvius, which is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. I bought some materials online, such as clay, plastic trees and wood houses. Then we had a presentation about our volcanoes. We learned more information about volcanoes and their structure by modeling them.（制作火山模型是加方科学课的一个作业。我制作的火山是Mount Vesuvius，它是世界上最危险的火山之一。我在网上购买了黏土、树木和房屋来当做材料。之后进行了演讲介绍自己的火山模型。我们通过制作火山模型了解到了更多关于火山的信息以及它的构造。）

This is really an interesting and meaningful project. It can not only let us know more about and understand volcanoes, but also improve our hands-on production and creativity. Each student's model is different and has its own characteristics. Through this volcano project, we not only deeply understand the various structures of volcanoes, but also consolidate the basic knowledge of geology. I'm happy that my volcano model could be a popular one. I love making volcanoes and things like that. Everyone had a passion for this project and tried to find inspiration from each other's work. Finally, I made a satisfied volcano model.（我很开心我的火山模型能够被大家喜欢。我很喜欢做火山这种课题作业。大家热情高涨，从彼此的火山模型上寻找灵感，最终做出了自己满意的火山。）

The volcano-making activity is very novel to me. In the past, we seldom had the chance to make some artworks by ourselves. I used clay and watercolor to make my volcano. In the process of making volcanoes, I also encountered some problems, such as cracks in clay. Then after seeking the help of my classmates, I painted the cracks black and simulated them into caves, which solved the problem perfectly. Through this activity, I have gained a lot. （这次的制作火山活动对我来说是非常新奇的。在过去，我们很少有自己动手做一些工艺品的机会。我使用了粘土和水彩制作火山。在制作过程中我也遇到了一些问题，例如：粘土经过放置后会出现裂缝。在寻求同学的帮助后，以裂缝涂成黑色的方式，从而模拟成洞窟便完美地解决了这个问题。通过这次活动，我受益良多。）

I made a model of Mount Fuji, and I used plasticine. I made a prototype of a volcano from paper based on the photo of the volcano, and then glued plasticine to the paper to form a complete volcano. I also encountered a lot of troubles in the production process, but the most difficult thing is to shape the volcano. I must carefully observe the original photo to make a perfect volcano.（我制作的是富士山模型，我所使用的是橡皮泥。我参照着火山的照片，先用纸制作出一个火山的雏形，然后把橡皮泥粘在纸上，组成一个完整的火山。我在制作过程中也遇到了很多的麻烦，但最困难的是给火山定型，我必须要认真地观察原照片才能制作一个完美的火山。）

I made a model of the St. Helens volcano. The materials used are space mud, small stones, turf and some plastic trees. The whole production process is difficult, the hardest part is the beginning. I used a lot of space mud to fill the interior of the model. But I felt very proud when it finished（我制作的是圣海伦斯火山模型，使用的材料是太空泥、小石子、草皮和一些塑料树。整个制作的过程比较艰难，最艰难的部分是开始，因为我使用了许多太空泥去填充模型的内部。但当整个模型制作完成的时候，我觉得非常有成就感。）

In science class, we studied the earth's crust movement and volcanic activity, so we made volcano models to study the types of volcanoes around the world and the geographical environment around them. This process is a very pleasant one. We have gained a lot from searching volcano information to making volcano shape with clay. What I made in Ecuador's Cordopassi volcano is the snow on the top of the mountain. I spent a lot of time carving and making the snow part very realistic. I really learnt a lot from this activity!（科学课上，我们研究地球的地壳运动、火山活动，所以我们制作了火山模型来研究世界各地的火山种类和火山周边的地理环境。这个过程是一个很愉快的过程，从搜索火山的信息到用粘土制作火山的外形，我们都收获了很多。我制作的是位于厄瓜多尔的科多帕西火山，难度最大的是山顶的雪，我花费了很多的时间雕琢，努力把雪的部分做得逼真。这次活动真的让我学到了很多！）

My volcano model made from space clay is Mount Fuji. It is the most famous mountain in Japan. I found a picture of it before making the model, and then I made the model by imitating the picture. In the process of making the model, I didn’t encounter major difficulties, it can be side that I was very lucky. Through this model-making activity, not only my patience but also my handwork skills have been cultivated.（我的火山模型是富士山，它是用太空泥做的。富士山是日本最著名的山。在制作模型之前，我先找了富士山的照片，然后我模仿图片制作成模型。在制作过程中，我并没遇到大的困难，可以说我是很幸运的。通过这次模型制作活动，我的耐心和动手能力都得到了培养。）

学生通过自制火山模型，提高了动手动脑的能力，并在集体演示过程中体验到了成功的快乐。可以说自制模型课题是学生学习兴趣的一个源泉。学生在充满掌声和笑声的课堂上学习，情绪上得到放松。课堂学习变成了欢乐的源泉。
目前，10年级学生制作的火山模型已全部展示在国际部立德楼三楼。欢迎并期待所有对科学感兴趣的老师和同学们前来指导与交流。
